Back in May 2005, Burnaby Mountain secondary’s junior leadership class organized a 32-hour basketball game in support of the Free The Children Brick by Brick campaign.
The purpose was to accumulate funds in order to build a school in war-torn Sierra Leone. The game raised more than $6,000.
From May 12 to 14, the entire school population was involved in supporting the event and thanks to hardworking volunteers and willing players, together as a team, we made the game a reality.
We, the 2005 junior leadership class would like to sincerely thank all the students and the administration who supported us even when we encountered numerous obstacles.
Moreover, we at Mountain would like to extend a special thank you to Boston Pizza for contributing delectable pasta and pizza, Basketball BC for providing us with excellent referees and St. John’s Ambulance.
After consulting with the Guinness Book of World Records, Burnaby Mountain successfully obtained the official record for the longest basketball game (marathon).
Together, we have dedicated ourselves to making a difference in the world and we are proud to announce that our fundraiser was a huge success. At Mountain, we have established ourselves as a school that cares about assisting those less fortunate than ourselves and fundraisers such as the 32-hour basketball game are constantly bringing us closer to that goal.
