We all have stories to tell. These stories come from exciting experiences, as well as from friends, songs, books and more. No matter where a story comes from, each story tells the world what we think and expresses what makes each of us unique.
For that same reason, when we read something that inspires us, we want to share it—to voice our opinions, express our thoughts and offer our own perspective.
When Ashley Chen, a first year student at York University in Toronto, read the Global Voices column written by Craig and Marc Kielburger arguing for Peace Corps in Canada, she was inspired to share her opinions on the matter.
As one of Free The Children’s Junior Journalists for the Toronto Star newspaper, Ashley highlighted the power that governments have to provide volunteer opportunities—such as creating a Canadian Peace Corps—for young people to make a difference.
Ashley’s article, entitled “Eager Volunteers Await,” was published on the Toronto Star website on March 14.

As Free The Children and the Toronto Star celebrate the one year anniversary of Global Voices, celebrate along with us by taking a stand and speaking up. Write, take photographs or create a podcast to share your thoughts on world issues!
