Life in Action Updates
Excitement about Life in Action, the exciting new program created through the support of the Atkins Foundation, continues to grow within Free The Children, Leaders Today, and the Greater Toronto Area. The program continues to educate and empower youth to change themselves and the world through their daily food choices. This dynamic program is being piloted in over 50 schools this year, and will impact 33,000 youth through its workshops and speeches!
Life in Action program facilitators give a motivational speech to an elementary school, and then in the afternoon train 15-30 students to become Leadership Ambassadors for the program. These students then initiate different actions in their schools to promote health. Recently, Prince of Peace school in Toronto set up a healthy snack bar, and they are using the money from the sales of healthy snacks to build a school through the Adopt a Village campaign. For more information, contact Scott Baker at scott@leaderstoday.com.
“The best part of the day was when we learned about the nutrients in foods and the different kinds of fat like monosaturated and polyunsaturated. Also, I enjoyed receiving a pedometer to start my mission of ‘walking to Kenya.’” - Johnathan Chio, 13, of Prince of Peace School
