Coins for change

A huge thank you to Club Penguin for supporting Free The Children

After the campaign’s success last year, Club Penguin’s Coins for Change campaign generously supported Free The Children again this year! Club Penguin is a safe and popular online virtual world where kids play games, have fun and interact with friends. In the process, players earn virtual coins to buy things for their virtual homes and penguin characters.

During the 10-day Coins for Change campaign between December 12 and 22, Club Penguin players donated virtual coins they earned through play to different causes. At the end of the campaign, New Horizon Foundation, which was started by Club Penguin’s creators, divided one million real dollars among charities based on virtual donations, giving youth the opportunity to help direct how the funds are allocated.

Last year, more than 2.5 million Club Penguin players donated in excess of two billion virtual coins as part of the first Coins for Change campaign. Free The Children received $276,000 to support communities in Kenya, China and Ecuador through the Adopt a Village program. This year, Free The Children received $330,000 to support communities in China, India and Ecuador through the Adopt a Village program.

A huge thank you goes to New Horizon Foundation and the Club Penguin players who chose to donate their virtual coins to Free The Children. Because of you, hundreds of children who are living in poverty will now have the opportunity to attend school!
