The Take Action! Academy:
Your Facilitators Working Hard for You
Howdy Folks!
Things are heating up here at Leaders Today as we get ready for this summer’s Take Action! Academy. The Academy will be held in Toronto from August 6 - 13. There are still a few spaces left, so sign up today!
The Leaders Today and Free The Children team wants to make sure that the 2006 Take Action! Academy is the best academy ever, so this June we dedicated a whole week to planning the Academy. Here’s what we did:
First, our facilitators paired up and found out which 20 participants will be in their group. They then worked tirelessly tailoring the Leaders Today curriculum to make sure it’s perfect for their team.
Second, we visited Humber College’s Lakeshore Campus, the site of this summer’s Academy. Each pair of facilitators chose the room that will be their group’s “home base” for the week, and we all took a walk down to the lake to plan the picnic and field day!
Finally, we brought the entire staff of Leaders Today and Free The Children together to visit their placements for the Take Action Day. Leaders Today and Free The Children facilitators
- Learned Habitat for Humanity’s safety procedures,
- Made a pre-visit to the CHUM City headquarters,
- Met with writers for a workshop at the Toronto Star
- Checked out Toronto’s tree-planting scene, and
- Visited the Ontario Science Center, which has invited our participants to make a youth-based film about HIV and AIDS.
After a week of hard work, your facilitators wrapped up our Academy planning with a cool pool party, because we all know the most important part of the Academy is to have fun!
