University of Toronto students choose opportunity
and change the world

The members of the University of Toronto Free The Children group are taking advantage of every opportunity they have to create positive social change.

At first-year orientation week, the group held a booth alongside 380 of the university’s clubs and organizations. With many visitors, the group broke their all-time record of number of first-year signups.

On September 19 at the University of Toronto, Robin Wiszowaty, a Free The Children speaker, gave a motivational talk about global citizenship. The evening began with a presentation by the University of Toronto Engineering Society who had fundraised more than $7,000 during orientation week to build a school in a rural community in China!

The positive energy and attitude at both events has been infectious and the University of Toronto can not wait to get started on all our plans for the year! This year’s ambitious group goals include: involving the entire university in the Vow of Silence campaign, outreach projects in Toronto-area elementary schools, a benefit evening of performance and culture, sports tournaments, chocolate sales and more.

Speaking at the University of Toronto, Robin said, “Opportunity is not a chance, but a choice.” The University of Toronto members make that choice to find opportunity every day, pushing themselves and their classmates to affect positive change. In doing so, they provide children in developing countries with the opportunity to get an education and work toward a brighter future.

Free The Children is the largest network of children helping children through education in the world, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. Founded by international child rights activist Craig Kielburger, Free The Children has an established track-record of success, with three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize and partnerships with the United Nations and Oprah’s Angel Network.
