Waterloo Teachers & Students Launch 1st Annual Joe Opatowski Walk the Walk-a-thon

Walk the Walk was a program written last spring for the people of Elizabeth Ziegler Public School. Its message spoke to the fact that we all KNOW how to be kind and treat others with love; we just don't DO it always. We wanted to rise above just talking the talk and take some action. Joe was a very special part of this effort and spent three wonderful days with us in April showing us how to Walk the Walk.

This is how he lived. Even if you only met him once, you felt how much love and enthusiasm he put out there. Here in Waterloo Ontario, where Joe touched the lives of many grateful students and teachers, we want to honour that special part of him that we miss already.

The Joe Opatowski Walk the Walk-a-thon is a kindness campaign in which we will collect pledges for committing acts of kindness. It will run for the month of December. All proceeds will be given to Joe's Dream; a scholarship fund which will provide equal opportunity for all youth to travel on one of Leaders Today's overseas trips and have their lives forever changed by the experience, just as Joe's life was changed by the trips and by all that Leaders Today stood for.

If people don't pay up, who cares? Kindness is never wasted! No matter our outcome, we think Joe would be into this!

If you would like to get involved and join the campaign, please contact Rebecca Fleisig at: walk4joe@yahoo.ca
